JEFFREE, A LIFE IN MUSIC . . .

The timeless music of Jeff Clarkson has brought peace to the lives of thousands of people. The beautiful feelings and moods he creates in music are profoundly restful and healing and work to relax mind and body in a rejuvenation of energy at a profound level.

IN THE BEGINNING . . .

Jeffree Clarkson was born in Dunedin in the South Island of New Zealand.

As a child, Jeffree lived close to Dunedin's Botanical Gardens and remembers having many profound clairaudio experiences of hearing beautiful music while playing in the surroundings of nature. This greatly influenced his life path and led to him taking up music at a young age.

At eight years old Jeff learned the cornet from his father and later went on to excel as a member of the high school brass band. As a ten year old Boy Scout, Jeff auditioned for the Dunedin "Gang Show" and found himself a star performer in his first year. This 1961 show, and Jeff's voice was recorded to vinyl. Jeff continued on to develop his natural musical talents through the continuing Gang Shows for a further 4 years.

THE JOURNEY BEGINS . . .

But it was to be the guitar that captured Jeff's musical imagination. The electric guitar and the emerging pop music era of the sixties saw Jeff embark on what was to be a long journey. A journey that would eventually lead him to write the beautiful music he is known so well for today.

In the first place Jeffree carried a dream. The culmination of his earlier experiences around music and nature had left an impression on his life. A desire to create music that could unite people at the deepest soul level. There had even been dreams - dreams of huge audiences receiving healing from his music. Moving hi-tech performances that transformed and uplifted . . .

Jeff began working with other musicians. There were years of changing combinations in a series of different bands. Jeff continued to improve his musicianship, reflecting his passion and love of music into his performances.

The passing years saw Jeff expand his horizons with a move to Wellington. While this was a valuable experience musically, Jeff preferred working in the energy of his home town so he returned to Dunedin a year later to continue his music as a singer songwriter. Now in his early twenties Jeff was realising the advantages of using the piano keyboard in music composition so he took time out moving his attention from guitar to developing his keyboard skills, and a new way of writing music.

REST . . .

Now working alone on his music, Jeffree realised a natural flair for philosophy with his lyrical ideas expressing deeper and more wholistic concepts. In his own life he began to realise his musical outlook was in some ways limited by the restraints of the commercial realties of the music business. Being able to keep focus on his own individual style was a challenge. As well as this, there was the day job, the all consuming relationships and the need to be self reliant - all necessities of life that appeared to steal time away from his music. The significance of these years were later evident in Jeffree's career as this was a time where he began to develop an inner strength for his own ideas over the distraction of the commercial music business.

TAKING FLIGHT . . .

A little later a door opened and Jeff took a new opportunity. A new band. A talent quest. Five hundred dollars and a truck. Jeff was now lead singer and his band "Inches Apart" took off to a new life in Auckland, New Zealand's biggest city in the north of the North Island.

"Inches Apart" was a theatrical performance as well as a pop group. Auckland, on the other hand was a "Rhythm n Blues" scene and a difficult audience to win over. Eventually "Inches Apart" split up and Jeff formed "Cinema" an Auckland sound, but still not the sound he was looking for.

A Little later Jeff met Warwick, Simon, Smartie and Bruce, and the band Flight 77 took off. Jeff began to live off his music, though to be fair this was a modest lifestyle at best. There was much travel, practising, performances, media interviews and television. After several personnel changes and a name change to FLIGHT X7 Jeff had a band that began to attract big audiences all around the New Zealand. The sound was bigger, the lights were brighter and there was the hustle and bustle of important people in the music business and media - and of course, the adoring fans. Flight X7 was signed to Polygram Records NZ and released two singles.

There was the feeling of success and elation, a dream realised, and yet Jeff's feeling wasn't as complete as he imagined it would be. The thinker and philosopher within asked some probing questions. Jeff would think about his early dreams, remembering "the audiences receiving healing from his music and the moving hi-tech performances". Yes, there were similarities, but no matter which way he looked at it, a change in direction clearly seemed to be the way forward .

REST . . .

Jeff was now thirty one years old. Both his parents had died so he took time out to re energise and refine his direction. He moved to Wellington. At about the same time advances in music synthesizer technology now enabled the composer- musician to write, arrange, produce and perform their music all out of one instrument. For Jeff this was totally synchronistic so he began working on some new music with a view to creating his first solo album.

A SOLO VENTURE . . .

Local record label, "Toast" saw the potential in Jeff's new music and got behind his album. There was much excitement for the finished product. "One to One" was an album of exciting pop songs that expressed Jeff's philosophies and heartfelt life experiences.

Jeff Clarkson's "One to One" was presented at the 1984 Cannes Music Festival in France. There was much interest in the album from overseas markets but the local market was not so convinced. Two singles were lifted from the album for radio promotion but with only reasonable sales locally there was not the interest to take Jeff any further, so he moved on . . .

REST . . .

Once again there was a period of reflection that saw Jeff attend a series of transformational workshops. He learned to meditate and through this, found an inner pathway that led him to his early life experiences. Experiences that brought some profound clarity to his life. He began to rediscover his natural clairaudio abilities. Jeffree began writing much of the music he had heard when he was around nature as a child.

ARRIVING . . .

His new music was meditative and healing. A profoundly peaceful and relaxing experience containing a universal quality that somehow nurtured the "inner being". His beautiful instrumental creations began transporting his listeners to making personal connections with their innate spirituality, at the deepest level.

Jeffree created a succession of beautiful relaxing albums that provided a beautiful ambient background for Meditation, Tai Chi, Yoga, Natural Birthing, Massage and a variety of natural therapies. The quality of Jeff Clarkson Music became recognised in mainstream medicine and caregiving, and led Jeffree to being approached and commissioned by Air New Zealand to write music for their relaxing in-flight videos.

With the release of each successive album Jeffree has returned to the stage to promote his new music. His heart felt performances magically complimenting his use of music technology to recreate live, the beautiful sound of his albums. Developing his presentations has expanded the depth of his music to include vocal tracks that express in words the philosophies within his music. These tracks are included on the albums Botanica, Simplicity and Breathing Space and feature Jeff's vocal abilities and the beautiful voices of his children.

At the conclusion of 2005 Jeffree was invited to support spiritual leader, Sri Pranananda at a 4 day workshop in Melbourne, Australia. This was a beautiful event with Jeffree performing continuously throughout the workshop. On returning to his home in Auckland Jeffree decided to take a welcome break for further reflection and rejuvenation.

REST . . .

There is a distinctive quality that identifies Jeffree's music. He is without doubt a intensely intuitive composer whose music can touch deeply within us. There is such a depth of beauty within in his music that many who listen have been so inspired to transform their lives . . .
